If your organisation moves regulated or radioactive material, sooner or later your auditors will ask about the carrier. Here is what a defensible answer looks like, and what to ask any specialist logistics partner. Including us.
In regulated sectors, supply chain scrutiny is not a sign of distrust; it is the system working. Pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and laboratories are routinely required to account for how material reaches them and leaves them, and the carrier is part of that answer. When the material is radioactive or otherwise dangerous, the question gets sharper.
Evidence, not assurances
The difference between a strong answer and a weak one is evidence. A carrier that is genuinely audit-ready can produce records rather than reassurance. Five things are worth asking any specialist carrier to show, not merely to state:
- Current driver training and competence records for the classes of goods being carried.
- Vehicle equipment and checking regimes, including how defects are recorded and closed out.
- A documented chain of custody for every movement, not a sampled or reconstructed one.
- A working incident and near-miss reporting process, with evidence that it is actually used.
- Independent scrutiny: what regulator inspections or certifications exist, and what they found.
Our answer
Isospeed7 welcomes that conversation. This year the Office for Nuclear Regulation inspected our transport compliance arrangements and rated the operation green in all twelve areas assessed, and our quality management system has been independently certified to ISO 9001:2015. Documentation, handover and chain of custody are recorded on every movement as a matter of course.
None of that replaces your own due diligence, and it is not meant to. It means that when your auditors ask the questions above, the answers exist in writing.
